Sarah Ingwersen, Partner at Taylor Root says:
I finished reviewing your book last night. It’s incredible! You have a natural gift of storytelling and write with such eloquence, intelligence and love. I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes at many points and I think your story telling is beautiful, raw, heart-breaking and filled with personality and love. I loved the way your own story interweaves with Mui’s and the jumping back and forth created a dynamic rhythm.
Australian forensic psychologist Vicki Gordon OAM says:
I finally… read your book. It was incredible... both the story and the writing… this book needs to get out there to the world.
Executive and leadership coach & former HSBC banker, Nigel Raymont says:
Gripping read. Good pacing. It held my attention the way through. It’s raw, scary yet carries a strong and undeniable sense of hope. I groaned inwardly at the defeats and roared with the victories, as I was rooting for you in the spectator stands!
Corliss Ruggles is the Chief Operating Officer of ASIFMA.
Wow – what an amazing read! While many parts are heart wrenching, I enjoyed it immensely and came away learning something. It’s very well written and done in a way that I found very natural and engaging. I think people might be surprised what the root of this story is about and personally I found it to be a crucially important one, particularly in this day and age.
Mike Zervos (OAM) CEO at Courage to Care, Victoria, Australia, says:
Your manuscript is incredibly honest, raw and powerful. It is an easy to read journey you take the reader on. It is insightful, has good flow and is fast paced. It is very emotional and beautiful. I was in tears reading the scene with Mui staring at the wall. I love your honesty, warmth and courage. Throughout I found myself loving reading this story.

Tina says:
Once upon a time in Hong Kong, I met an abandoned baby girl hidden away on the fringes of society because of her appearance.
Once upon a time in Europe, my family were Jews.
Collaborating with Rog as he wrote this book in my voice has meant delving into dark places alongside the miracles and wonder. We are so seldom told the truth, and I want our story to start conversations.
One magical afternoon on a hospital ward, Mui saw me and screamed, and I fell in love with her; and then the hard work began. I was twenty-six years old and fearlessly determined to fight for her.
Mui says:
People think our story is: “Girl with red skin – they saved her!”
That’s so wrong, my skin doesn’t define me, and my parents didn’t save me. My parents once gave a speech about adoption and my mum said afterwards: ‘adopting Mui was like an unexpected pregnancy; she’s our unexpected adoption!’
And don't call me 'The Girl Behind The Face' because that refers to my mum!
This book is definitely a rollercoaster ride, but if it is too much reality for you then just imagine what it’s been like for me and my parents!
My parents are the ones to tell our family's story, because they are the only ones who know what really happened.
I contribute my own words too! Because this is the story of how i got to be Mui Thomas.
"What an amazing young woman." BBC
“At least I have the love and support of my parents, and not everyone gets that.” The Mirror
"Doctors thought I would die in infancy and my parents had to cope alone with that.” WalesOnline

This book is not about abnormality. It is about the courage of coping with abnormality. The courage of three people: a decent down to earth couple, and a daughter who fights to survive each day.
Jan Henderson marketing consultant MD and single parent, says:
Powerful and moving, this book unfolds a dramatic real life story between a young woman's traumatic life and how it impacted her and a child's life on the opposite side of the world.
This is a must read for anyone that admires the enduring human spirit and how it triumphs against all odds.
John Church journalist, says:
As a journalist you get pretty cynical, but once in a while a story comes along which makes you sit up and take note and makes you want to get your act together.
Jennifer MaCallion school teacher says:
You are all in for a real treat. This is a real page turner. I loved the way that the narrative of Mui’s early life is interwoven with Tina’s story. I experienced an absolute roller coaster of emotions when I read it. A wonderful book.
